STAMINA® Rehabilitation Therapy
(patent pending) is a new manual therapy that treats the whole body rather than just the site of the pain or dysfunction.

Through incorrect posture, injury or illness muscles can become mal-aligned.We have learned that if those muscles are not in their correct place, they are not able to stabilize the joints, or carry the load they are capable of.

This is similar to suspension bridge cables that distribute load between specific points. If one cable is out then an excessive load is transferred to the other cables. Within our muscles this compensation can occur from incorrect posturing, illness or injury.

STAMINA®
aligns the stabilizing load management muscles of the body into their optimal position. When we align the muscles we also train your brain to recognize that the muscle is once again available so that it no longer needs to compensate. In this way, we are able to treat your symptoms and the causes, while potentially preventing future problems.

Who is it for?
STAMINA® Rehabilitation Therapy addresses the cause of the pain, often in much shorter time frames.
Patients requiring STAMINA® Rehabilitation Therapy may experience some of the following symptoms:
  • symptoms ranging from discomfort to extreme pain
  • compensation by other muscle groups causing misleading symptoms  ie: pain is felt in neck but hips are out of alignment
  • loss of range of motion
  • structural joint or soft tissue compression ie: bulging discs / root nerve entrapment
  • reduced performance / delayed response time
  • unbalanced load distribution ie: striking heavy on one foot/ one pelvis higher
How are STAMINA® Rehabilitation Therapy sessions structured?
A new adult patient begins with one 90 minute and two 60 minute sessions spaced 7 days apart. These sessions are then followed by three 30 minute sessions, spaced 2, 3 and then 4 weeks apart until the patient is successfully retaining alignments, and is pain free. If desired, long term maintenance can then be arranged periodically to retain the benefits of the alignment. Depending on the chronicity and complexity of the pathology involved (ie. long term muscle atrophy and nerve damage), treatment frequency and number of sessions will vary to achieve the desired result. In such cases it may be necessary to combine other modalities (ie. Low Intensity Laser Therapy, STAMINA® Massage Therapy, STAMINA® Yoga Therapeutics, Thermal Imaging, physiotherapy, Intra Muscular Stimulation (IMS), Physio Taping, prolotherapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, surgery, pharmaceutical) to assist in recovery. Children generally start with two 60 minute sessions followed by three 30 minute sessions (depending on the pathology) and are then assessed for maintenance.

What should I expect during the therapy?

During a session 14 key muscle groups are performance tested and measured before and after the alignments. The measurements are charted based on a performance scale to track your progress. Most patients experience a reduction or elimination of their pain as the alignments and retraining occur.

What should I expect following my session?

Following the initial re-alignment the patient may experience mild fatigue or surge in energy, mild muscle soreness (like that of doing a new exercise) dissipating over 24-36 hours.
You may begin to experience any or all of the following:

  • overall increased strength & energy
  • increased response time
  • in most cases significantly reduced or no pain (decreasing until eliminated)
  • greater ease in movement
  • increased ROM
  • decrease in pain that you previously experienced
  • improved sleep quality
What can Ergonomic Assessment do for me?
Often the most repetitive strain injuries come from the tasks we do most frequently in our work or home life. Simply put, it isn’t necessarily what you do but how you do those activities. We can offer suggestions on stationary and active posturing for daily functions that will create a balanced distribution of load in body posture, thus eliminating the source of aggravation. Generally, this assessment is part of a full STAMINA® session.

What role does Rehabilitative Exercise play in my session?

Each patient will learn 3 simple Self Aligning Isometric movements which need to be performed 2 - 3 times daily for 3 months and in some cases longer, to re-train motor pathways, and strengthen key stabilizing load management muscles. Instructions will be given on how to correctly walk and sit. Some patients will receive additional exercises specifically to address problem areas in order to rebuild muscle tone and strength. General rehabilitative exerciseis part of STAMINA® therapy treatments but a patient can also benefit from a scheduled program of STAMINA® Yoga Therapeutics to further enhance their recovery.

How do STAMINA® Rehabilitation Therapy and
Laser Therapy work interactively?
In some individuals the soft tissue damage or inflammation is too advanced, creating a plateau in treatment, requiring additional therapy. Low Intensity Laser Therapy goes to work promoting healing in damaged cells, ultimately improving communication from the brain to the muscle. This will allow STAMINA® to be more effective to those damaged areas.(see list of pathologies)
