Yoga was the foundation for the discovery of STAMINA® Rehabilitation Therapy. After a failed back surgery in 1994, Aleyna Sheradha, the founder of STAMINA®, felt discouraged living daily with pain and nerve damage. For 8 years, she tried a wide array of therapies with no resolution to the problem.

In desperation she began doing gentle yoga postures and found it gave her relief. As she increased the frequency to a daily basis she was taken by surprise when her pain diminished by 90% within 6 months. Her nerve damage was reversed within 18 months and she had full recovery returning to full time work as a massage therapist.

After her profound recovery Aleyna began a dedicated life pursuit to apply the rehabilitative benefits of yoga into an effective manual therapy. This led to years of applied studies and the evolution of STAMINA®.


When treating patients our STAMINA® Rehabilitative Therapists have found a significant loss of muscle function and strength with any actions that involve external rotation of the hip or knee joints.

External rotation in daily activities such as walking, standing, sitting, lifting or doing exercises that involve externally rotating your hips or knees have significant long term implications. This repeated posturing will mal-align the most powerful muscles which ultimately leads to compensation and joint deterioration.

STAMINA® Yoga Therapeutics takes this understanding of human bio-mechanics into account. Therefore, all traditional external rotation yoga postures have been either eliminated or modified with STAMINA® Yoga to keep the body in optimal alignment at all times. This aligns with the overall muscle alignment principles that make STAMINA® an innovative whole body rehabilitative therapy.

If you have particular physical condition that needs to be addressed it is advisable to first schedule with a STAMINA® Rehabilitative Therapist. They will perform a full assessment and treat any muscle mal-alignment issues that may be the cause of the problem. Then specific yoga postures can be prescribed.

Once the problems are assessed then your yoga therapist will work with a pace that is right for you. Feel the difference this gentle approach to exercise therapy can make even with easy postures!

You will be shown how to use props that enable you to do postures that would otherwise be too difficult. Bolsters, yoga straps, blocks, using a chair or wall for support are commonly used to enhance your yoga practice.

Over a series of yoga sessions you will progressively be shown correct postures to improve your specific condition. Your yoga therapist will be sensitive to your needs and provide modifications to postures where needed. This ensures a gentle rehabilitative yoga program that is safe and at the same time relaxing.


STAMINA® Rehabilitative Yoga offers a wide range of benefits for those who are in a wheelchair or disabled. Your yoga therapist will design a program that enhances your abilities and increases your overall health. Breathing exercises with yoga greatly assist in coping with everyday stress and give a sense of balance and inner connection.


After each individual yoga session your STAMINA® Yoga therapist will provide you with a detailed handout including step by step coloured photos of the yoga postures. This allows you to safely continue your practice in your home environment.

All the props used in the yoga session can be easily incorporated into your home practice. As you become comfortable with the series of yoga postures you can schedule more sessions to further build on what you have learned.


STAMINA® Lifestyle Yoga is suitable for anyone with a good fitness level. The yoga program can be customized from easy to advanced. It allows an individual or a small group of up to four people to gain from a personally tailored yoga program.

STAMINA® Lifestyle Yoga can benefit:

  • Anyone who would like a personal customized yoga program one-on-one or in small groups (max. 4 people). Your yoga instructor will listen to your particular needs and design a yoga program to meet your personal goals and expectations.
  • Athletes who are in training or setting fitness goals. Yoga can range from gentle stretches to an invigorating continuous flow of postures that can match any cardio target range.
  • Active individuals who are not able to do high impact exercising. Many individuals have problems with muscle strain or joint problems. Yoga provides a full body workout without the strain on your body.
  • Stress is a major concern in our everyday life. Yoga naturally installs a centeredness and calmness through release of muscle tension and conscious breathing throughout the postures.
  • Props can enhance any yoga exercise program. You will be shown how to increase the benefits of postures using yoga straps, blocks, pillows and supports such as chairs, walls and doors. Any props used in session are adaptable to your home practice.
  • The key to any fitness program is a commitment to integrating it into your daily activity. After each yoga session you are given full colour handouts with step by step instructions to safely continue your practice in your home setting.

With our Yoga Therapy Wall you can be challenged to any fitness level you desire. The straps and wall bar act as props to assist in the postures and can be beneficial for gentle to advanced positions. The yoga wall properly supports you and enables you to do postures you could never dream possible and all with no harm to your body.

 

An example is inversion poses (known to increase oxygen to the brain and improve brain function) traditionally can cause strain on the neck and shoulders. With the aid of inversion straps and bolsters the weight of the body is virtually eliminated.
